About Richard Blackburn, Managing Director. To understand why Energi is special, maybe you'd like to know more about the person behind Energi... A passion for engineering... Being the son of an apprentice-trained toolmaker, I was brought up with a passion for engineering. With two brothers also trained as engineers, I chose to study Electronic and Electrical Engineering and went on to become an electronics design engineer working on projects ranging from audio systems to embedded control for security systems and forecourt fuel dispensing equipment. A knowledge of sales, marketing and brand strategy... After 10 years of developing PCB's, fiddling with op amps and power transistors, programming microprocessors and providing technical sales support, I decided to move into technical sales by way of a new challenge and a new perspective. After undertaking 3 years of academic study in Business and Finance, with a particular focus on marketing, I became an internal sales engineer handling sales and marketing issues for a global manufacturer of automotive sensors. After this, I went on to specialise in the sales and marketing of software into the worldwide engineering sector, culminating in becoming the Managing Director of the UK division of a leading supplier of software products to the wireless/mobile phone industry. In 2003, we set up Energi. Over the previous years, I had worked with some of the world's most talented marketing professionals and had learned a great deal. As a sales manager, I had learned that effective marketing is critical for the generation of leads and for creating a positive perception about the product that I was selling. As a marketing manager, I had learned what really works long-term and what doesn't. Most of all, I came to realise that there are very few marketing people who understand engineers and vice versa. Hence, the creation of Energi - a company that understands engineers and is committed to delivering real long terms results focused on profitability and growth. ...we only take on a limited number of clients At Energi, we only take on a limited number of clients, so that our clients can always be sure they'll feel special and we'll be investing the necessary time and energy to get the results they need. We also have a very simple cost structure with no hidden surprises, no extra costs and no additional expenses. Our focus is on helping our clients meet their revenue targets - not our own. Our pricing structure also means that we can work for both large and small companies (the same marketing principles apply). Whether it's global clients such as Swedish software company Enea or local engineering company Acro in Norfolk, you can be sure that we've made a big difference.
